| "Personal Densha: Train drawings from Chiba to Tokyo" collects 5 illustrations of strangers drawn while riding the train from my small town in Chiba-prefecture to the big city of Tokyo. These quick sketches were digitally colored using scanned-in textures including newspaper paragraphs, pastel marks, and ink washes. I aimed to recreate the dream-like atmosphere of trains packed with people sleeping, reading, tapping on cell phones, or otherwise detached from the reality around them. The result is a hand-made, full-color 16-page booklet featuring these drawings as well as 2 cell-phone photos that line the interior book cover. |
